Chest Aftercare: What to Do and Avoid in the First 48 Hours
By First Lady Of Waxing LLC | September 6, 2026
The biggest rule after a chest wax is simple: keep the area cool, clean, and low-friction for 48 hours. I’m quick and thorough during your 15-minute full chest appointment, and that same “don’t overdo it” mindset is what protects your skin afterward, especially here in Scottsdale heat.

Quick check: For the first 48 hours after a chest wax, avoid hot showers, heavy sweating, tight shirts, pools, and direct sun. Keep it clean and dry, soothe with a gentle fragrance-free gel or aloe, and skip exfoliation for 72 hours.
0–24 hours after a chest wax: shower tips, sweat rules, and the “no friction” plan
Right after your chest wax, your follicles are open and your skin is a little reactive. That’s normal. What causes problems is heat, sweat, and rubbing. If you’re in the Shea Corridor area and heading back to the office near Scottsdale Airpark, think breathable shirt and minimal friction on the way home.
Do this today
- Keep the area cool and dry. If you’re warm or a little puffy, a cool compress over your shirt for 5–10 minutes helps.
- Wear a loose, soft shirt. Cotton or moisture-wicking fabric is great. Tight collars and rough seams are not.
- If you shower, keep it lukewarm and quick. Use a mild, fragrance-free cleanser and your hands only.
Skip this today
- Hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs.
- Gym sessions that make you sweat hard. Scottsdale summer heat and monsoon humidity make sweat linger, which is exactly what we don’t want.
- Scrubbing, exfoliating gloves, loofahs, or anything “polishing.” Give your skin 72 hours first.
If you planned a McDowell Sonoran Preserve hike or a round of golf, this is the time to take it easy or move it to later. Evening plans tend to be kinder on freshly waxed skin than midday sun around North Scottsdale.
24–48 hours: how to keep bumps down (and avoid the stuff that sneaks up on you)
Day two is where people accidentally mess up their results. You feel fine, then a tight shirt, a long drive, or a “just one quick workout” turns into irritation. Keep treating your chest like it’s in a calm-down phase.
Sun, water, and sweat
- Avoid direct sun and sunbathing. Freshly waxed skin can darken faster if it gets hit with strong UV.
- Skip pools, lakes, and open water for 48 hours. Chlorine plus open follicles is not a great combo.
- If you have to be out, stay in the shade, keep your shirt breathable, and try not to trap sweat under tight fabric.
Products to avoid for 72 hours
Hold off on alcohol-based toners, strong acids, retinoids, and perfumed lotions. If it stings on normal skin, it’s too much right now.
48–72+ hours: when exfoliation starts helping prevent ingrown hairs on the chest
Ingrowns usually come from two things: dead skin trapping new growth and too much friction. Once you’re past the first 72 hours and your skin looks calm, gentle exfoliation can help a lot.
My rule: If you’re still red or tender, wait. If everything looks normal, start with light exfoliation 2–3 times a week, not daily.
If an ingrown shows up
Don’t pick or dig at it. That’s how you get a scab and a dark mark. Use warm (not hot) compresses, keep it clean, and once the skin is fully settled, a gentle chemical exfoliant can be helpful. If you’re not sure what’s safe for your skin, reach out and I’ll point you in the right direction.
My simple chest waxing aftercare routine (products by type, not hype)
You don’t need a big shelf of products. You need the right categories and a light touch.
- Cleanser: mild, fragrance-free soap. Hands only for the first couple of days.
- Soother: fragrance-free aloe or a gentle gel moisturizer. Thin layer, let it breathe.
- Moisturizer: non-comedogenic lotion if you’re dry. If you’re prone to bumps, less is often better at first.
- Exfoliation (after 72 hours): gentle and consistent. No harsh scrubs.
And a Scottsdale-specific note: desert heat plus monsoon humidity can make sweat sit on the skin longer. If you’re commuting off Loop 101 or running around Kierland, bring an extra clean shirt if you know you’ll be outside for a while.
What’s normal vs. when to reach out to me after a chest wax
Mild redness and tiny bumps right after waxing are common, and they usually calm down within a day or two. If you follow the heat and friction rules, most people do great.
Reach out if you notice redness that’s spreading, increasing pain, yellow or green discharge, or you develop a fever. Those are signs something more than simple irritation might be going on. I’d rather you check in early than sit there wondering.
“Wonderful experience. I really enjoyed going. I would 100% recommend her. She gave me advice on how to maintain and manage. She checked in on how I'm doing throughout the service. I will go back again. Give her a try!”

Rebooking note: Chest wax is $45 and takes about 15 minutes. I’m appointment-only, and I keep it private, clean, and efficient. If you want to pair your visit with shopping at Kierland Commons or errands in North Scottsdale, just plan around that first 48-hour low-heat window.
